Campus Minister
Meet UPCaM’s Campus Minister,
Amanda Powell
Amanda Powell, UPCaM’s Campus Minister brings experience in community building, music ministry, multi-cultural and inter-religious worship, and collegiate teaching.
Amanda has led creative and engaging worship and workshops all over the world. Whether for a few hundred or ten thousand people, Amanda engages people in song with her spirited energy, story-telling and wide-open invitation.
Amanda’s work in worship leadership began during a trip to South East Asia in 2001, sponsored by the Global Ministries Division of the United Methodist Church. During this music tour, she witnessed and became passionate about the power that music has to connect people from different cultures. Over the past decade, Amanda has directed, performed and presented workshops for a number of regional and national ecumenical events including at Princeton Theological Seminary, Union Presbyterian Seminary, for The United Methodist Women's Assembly, the American Guild of Organists and for the Presbyterian Association of Musicians. Amanda has served as liturgist and worship leader at events with the World Council of Churches, The United Church of Christ Church House and the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. Amanda has worked in a number of local churches including Christ United Methodist, Northampton, MA, Trinity Episcopal, Upperville VA, Federated U.C.C, Chagrin Falls, OH and most recently as Director of Music and Worship Arts at Disciples Christian Church.
Amanda served on the music faculty at Cleveland State University from 2017-2024 where she enjoyed supporting students as their voice teacher and mentor. She also designed and taught a course called Group Singing and Improvisation.
Amanda is privileged to walk alongside the dynamic students of the UPCaM community. LGBTQ+ affirming and celebrating, she is proud to create safe space for students to explore their faith and spirituality. She believes all of us are God’s children, made in God’s colorful image, loved deeply for the fullness and complexity of who we are.
