A volunteer-in-mission trip to the Renewal Orphanage in Dmitrov, Russia
Trip Date: Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 – Wed. Jan. 13, 2010. We will spend eleven nights in the orphanage and three nights in the Hotel Izmaylova in Moscow.
Dmitrov is a modern, small city two hours north of Moscow. There are banks, restaurants, and stores within walking distance of the orphanage. There is even a McDonald’s restaurant.
The Renewal Orphanage is home top 120 physically handicapped children, ages five to 21. One half of these children go home to live with their parents during the Christmas/New Year’s holidays. This leaves around 70 children who have been abandoned by parents who live in the orphanage year round. Almost all of the children have some kind of physical impairment, disease or disability.
Cost of the trip: $2600 per person or less (probably less), depending on airline fare & final cost of hotel & touring sites in Moscow. Includes all air/ground transportation, room / board at the orphanage and hotel, all entrance fees to exhibits, passport and visa processing, and insurance. We will leave from the Cleveland-Hopkins International Airport. We may have large financial help from a foundation at Case, check with me to find out more.
Payment Schedule: A $100 non-refundable deposit is needed soon to reserve a spot on the trip.. Once you have given a “final okay” either verbally or by e-mail for airline reservations, you are committed to pay for the airline fare, even if you choose later to back out of the trip. Final payment must be made by December 1st. All checks should be made out to: Protestant Campus Ministry.
Cancellation policy: Should you need to cancel, funds will be returned if they have not yet been used to pay for trip expenses. Most airline fares are nonrefundable and nontransferable.
Luggage allowance: Each person is allowed two suitcases which will be checked in, maximum of 50 pounds each. One piece will be filled with your personal items, one piece will be filled with contributions for the children. You are also allowed one carry-on piece of luggage, and one personal item.
Vaccinations: It is recommended that you receive the Hepatitis A & B vaccine, and that you have an updated tetanus vaccine.
Passports: Everyone must have a valid passport for the dates of travel, and you must have your passport to me by October 1, 2009.
Accommodations: Two to four people will share a room at the orphanage. Bedrooms and bathrooms are clean and modern. Two people will share a room in the Izmaylova Hotel in Moscow.
